Musings: Ina, Kapatid, Anak (1979)

Ina, Kapatid, Anak (1979)
Lino Brocka

A family is just like any other until you get to live in their house. A gleaming portrait of a Filipino family in the late 70s, this classic is as relevant in our culture today as it was yesterday. The themes are timeless: the gap between the upper and the lower classes, the rift in a sibling rivalry, the pursuit of revenge, a history of love and loss.

Lino Brocka, who is often regarded as an actor's director, has skillfully presented the acting tour de force of the ensemble. From Lolita Rodriguez's calm and sophisticated attack to Charito Solis' assertive and unforgiving backlash, the actors were a sight to behold in giving life to their characters.

Side note: How i wish the TV network chose another title for an evening soap opera, so as to avoid wrong references and much confusion... (lols)
